She endured the first Henry Tudor. Can she survive his son?
Margaret Pole is no stranger to fortune's wheel. Firstborn of the heir apparent of England, she was brought low as the daughter of a traitor. After years of turmoil as the Tudor dynasty took root, Margaret finds favor with her cousin, King Henry VIII. Through it all, she struggles to forge a life for her children while protecting them from the king's suspicious jealousies.
Will the remnant of the York dynasty thrive under this tempestuous king or will Margaret discover that there is a price to pay for having an excess of royal blood?

Margaret Pole's story is fascinating, yet so tragic. The poem she craved into the wall in her cell is as upsetting as Thomas Wyatts, Circumdederunt me inimici mei’. The immense suffering she faced, and the fragility of her mind makes her story so upsetting.
ReplyDeleteI have added your book to my to-read list.
Thank you! I enjoyed writing her story.
DeleteThis era was so tragic, especially for the women. To execute an almost 70 year old who had done nothing wrong is just another example of Henry VIII brutality.
ReplyDeleteMargaret's life is full of tragedies at the hands of kings - Edward V executed her father, Henry VII executed her brother, and Henry VIII executed her son before executing her!
